Efforts Made To Communicate With Vikram Lander, No Signal Received Yet: ISRO

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Friday stated that they tried to establish contact with the Vikram lander and Pragyan rover of Chandrayaan-3 to ascertain their activation status. However, they were unable to receive any signal.

ISRO posted on platform X, formerly Twitter, "Efforts have been made to establish communication with the Vikram lander and Pragyan rover to ascertain their wake-up condition. As of now, no signals have been received from them." The space research organisation further informed that efforts to establish communication will continue.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Jitendra Singh on X stated that the team ISRO for the last several hours has been making several efforts to establish contact with the Vikram lander and Pragyan rover. But no communication could be established as of now.

"As of now, no signal has been received from them so far. This could be possibly because of a prolonged spell of cold weather conditions up to -150 degrees C during the just concluded lunar night of 14 Earth days. However, efforts to establish contact shall continue," Singh stated on X.

Earlier today, ISRO had scheduled to reactivate the lander and rover that had been in 'sleep mode' for roughly 16 Earth days prior to the lunar night blanketing the Moon's south pole. This procedure is set to occur as the Moon's temperature increases above minus 10 degrees Celsius, a condition required to trigger the essential communication component, the "wake-up circuit".

The Vikram lander successfully landed near the moon's south pole on August 23, achieving one of the main goals of the Chandrayaan-3 mission of a soft landing on the moon. The lunar mission modules operated efficiently for approximately 10 Earth days. On September 2, the rover went into sleep mode, followed by the lander on September 4.
