ED In Action! Enforcement Directorate Conducts Multiple Raids In Jharkhand, West Bengal Over Infiltration
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated a series of operations in Jharkhand and West Bengal, focusing on a money laundering case linked to the suspected illegal entry of individuals from Bangladesh. These actions are part of an ongoing probe into alleged demographic changes in Jharkhand's tribal regions, particularly Santhal Pargana and Kolhan. The issue has sparked political controversy over suspected illegal immigration.
Political tensions have risen as the enforcement branch of Jharkhand coordinates these raids. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders have accused the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha government of permitting illegal Bangladeshi immigrants to settle on indigenous tribal lands. As elections approach, BJP leaders argue that such infiltration threatens the region's culture and demographics.

Political Reactions to Immigration Concerns
Earlier this month, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed a public rally in Ranchi on November 5. He promised that if the BJP gained power in Jharkhand, they would implement strict measures against illegal Bangladeshi immigration to protect tribal lands. Singh's statement highlighted the BJP's stance on safeguarding local rights and reversing demographic trends.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also spoke on November 10 about the threat posed by Bangladeshi infiltrators. At a rally in Deoghar, Chouhan stated, "These Bangladeshi infiltrators not only endanger our land and women but also the very Sanatan Sanskriti. They want to annihilate our civilization."
Legal Actions and Investigations
The ED's actions follow an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) filed under various sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). This was initiated after an FIR by Jharkhand police at Bariyatu police station in Ranchi in June. The investigation focuses on unlawful infiltration by Bangladeshi nationals into Jharkhand and nearby areas.
Earlier this month, six Bangladeshi citizens, including three transgenders, were arrested at a rail terminus in West Tripura while allegedly planning to travel to Mumbai. These arrests highlight ongoing concerns about smuggling people from Bangladesh.
Impact on Upcoming Elections
The presence of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants has become a significant issue ahead of the Jharkhand elections. With ongoing ED investigations and political developments, this topic is expected to remain prominent in public discussions for some time.
