ED Claims DJB Bribe Money Funneled to AAP Officials for Election Funds

New Delhi, Apr 2 - The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has once again brought allegations of corruption against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), claiming that a significant amount of bribe money was funneled to the party's election funds. According to the ED, a former chief engineer of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Jagdish Kumar Arora, is at the center of this controversy, having allegedly transferred Rs 2 crore to his colleagues and the AAP. This development follows a series of raids by the ED, which, according to AAP, have not yielded any incriminating evidence against their leaders.

ED Accuses AAP of Receiving DJB Bribes

The allegations stem from an investigation into a DJB contract, where it is claimed that bribe money generated was passed on as election funds to AAP. The ED's scrutiny has led to the provisional attachment of assets worth Rs 8.8 crore belonging to Jagdish Kumar Arora, his wife Alka Arora, sub-contractor Anil Kumar Aggarwal of Integral Screw Industries, and NKG Infrastructure Limited. This company was awarded the DJB contract and is now under investigation for submitting forged documents to secure the tender.

Arora and Aggarwal were arrested by the ED in January and are currently in judicial custody. A charge sheet has been filed against them, highlighting a scheme where out of Rs 24 crore paid by DJB for contract work, only about Rs 14 crore was actually spent on the project. The rest, as per ED's allegations, was siphoned off for bribes, with Rs 3.19 crore going to Arora, who then allegedly distributed part of these funds.

In response to these allegations, AAP has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, accusing the ED of acting as a political tool for the BJP. The party highlighted that despite over 230 cases filed against its leaders during the last decade under the Modi government, none have been proven in courts. AAP's statement also questioned the ED's focus on their party while alleging neglect in investigating other significant corruption cases linked to different political entities.

The controversy extends beyond just financial misconduct; it touches upon issues of political bias and the use of federal agencies in political skirmishes. AAP's counter-allegations suggest a broader narrative of selective justice and political vendettas shaping the enforcement landscape in India.

This ongoing battle between AAP and federal agencies like the ED and CBI underscores a tumultuous relationship between the ruling party at the Centre and one of its most vocal critics on the state level. With both sides standing firm on their positions, this saga adds another layer to India's complex political dynamics.
