EC Takes Action Against Dilip Ghosh And Supriya Shrinate For Personal Attacks
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken action against Congress leader Supriya Shrinate and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Dilip Ghosh for making personal attacks. Following objectionable remarks made by Ghosh against West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and by Shrinate against BJP Mandi candidate Kangana Ranaut, the ECI has decided to specially and additionally monitor their election-related communications.

After receiving replies to notices issued to them over violations of the Model Code of Conduct, the ECI concluded that both leaders had indeed made personal attacks, thus violating the provisions of the Code. They have been warned to be more careful in their public utterances during the Model Code of Conduct period.

Ghosh's objectionable remark against Mamata Banerjee was made during an election campaign in Bengal's Durgapur. He stated that Mamata Banerjee "needs to fix the identity of her father" and criticized her for claiming different identities in different states. Party president JP Nadda sought clarification from Ghosh regarding his statement.
Shrinate's derogatory social media post about Kangana Ranaut came after the actor was fielded by the BJP from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The post, which was uploaded on Shrinate's profile, contained derogatory remarks about Ranaut. Shrinate later deleted the post, claiming that many people had access to her social media profiles and that those who knew her would understand that she would not make such statements.
