EC issues notification for Puducherry assembly polls

Puducherry, April 22: The Election Commission on Friday, April 22 issued notification for the May 16 Puducherry assembly polls.

The publication of the notification paves the way for the candidates to file their nominations from today for the 30 member assembly.

Last date for filing nominations is April 29 and the scrutiny would be held the next day, Chief Electoral officer of Puducherry V Candavelou said here.

The last date for withdrawal of candidature is May 2. The Union Territory has a total of 9,48,717 voters and 4,97,790 of them are women. Candavelou said 930 polling booths would be set up and the polling would held from 7 AM to 6 PM. May 19 is the counting date.
