Congress veteran leader and former Union minister P Chidambaram has hit out at the Election Commission for not announcing the poll dates for the Gujarat assembly election.

Taking to Twitter, Chidambaram said,''EC will be recalled from its extended holiday after Gujarat Govt has announced all concessions and freebies.''

"EC has authorised PM to announce the date of Gujarat elections at his last rally (and kindly keep EC informed)," he wrote on Twitter.

Reacting to Chidambaram's statement that the Election Commission is waiting for the Modi to announce the Gujarat poll dates in his rally, the Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani said that the entire Congress is scared of the upcoming Gujarat Elections.

Commenting on Chidambaram's tweet, Rupani said,''I think Chidambaram & the entire Congress are scared of the upcoming Gujarat Elections.''

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has also taken several digs at the PM for the delay in the announcement, alleging that the government is pressuring the EC.

The Election Commission was scheduled to announce the dates for Himachal and Gujarat Assembly elections on October 12, but it only announced the dates for Himachal. Chief Election Commissioner A K Jyoti, had however, said Gujarat polls will be held before December 18, the day when the results of the Himachal Pradesh polls are to be announced.
