EC bribery case case: How strong is the case against TTV Dinakaran?

The police say that Dinakaran was desperate and hence he had even agreed to speak on the phone with Sukesh.

The special branch of the Delhi police was in Chennai on Thursday to gather more evidence against Sasikala Natarajan's nephew, T T V Dinakaran in connection with the Election Commission bribery case. However the Delhi police has a long way to go before it can gather evidence to directly link Dinakaran with Sukesh Chandrashekhar the conman who assured that he could get the two leaves symbol of the AIADMK by bribing EC officials to the tune of Rs 50 crore.

For now the case rests on an audio tape containing a brief conversation between Dinakaran and Sukesh. The police will need to go beyond this evidence and it is also said that the arrest of Dinakaran took place following a confession by an advocate.

The police say that Dinakaran was desperate and hence he had even agreed to speak on the phone with Sukesh. This is a piece of evidence that links him directly, but the same will need to be corroborated further, the police also say.

The desperation was shown as Dinakaran had been nominated as the candidate to fight the R K Nagar by-elections. The two leaves symbol had been frozen by the EC as the O Panneerselvam group had staked a claim on the same.

During the search conducted on Thursday, the Delhi police have not managed to seize any incriminating material. We are at it and will get there, a Delhi police officer told OneIndia. We are in the process of corroborating the evidence based on the statements made by both Dinakaran and Sukesh, the officer also said.

Sukesh reportedly confessed to the Delhi police that he had met with Dinakaran posing as a High Court judge. Delhi police sources said that during the questioning, Dinakaran too confessed to meeting Sukesh and this had led to his arrest.
