6.9 earthquake in Myanmar, strong tremors felt in Kolkata, Patna

Patna, Apr 13: An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale struck Myanmar on Wednesday evening. Though initial reports said that the earthquake measured 7.0, USGS reported that the intensity was 6.9 on the Richter scale.

Tremors were felt across Patna, Kolkata and several parts of Eastern India. People were being evacuated from buildings according to latest reports.

Tremors were also felt in several parts of Assam and Odisha. The tremors were felt at Eden Gardens where Kolkata Knight Riders faceoff against the Mumbai Indians in the IPL.

Cracks were seen at the Kolkata Metro station walls after the tremors, whereas minor damage was reported in high rise buildings in Guwahati.

Delhi and several parts of eastern India were rocked by tremors. No reports of casualties have been reported as of now. Delhi metro services were briefly halted after tremors were felt in the city.

According to National Centre of Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at 7:25 PM at the depth of 134 km.
