E-Passport Application Now Open: Here’s How to Apply Under Passport Seva 2.0
The Government of India has rolled out Passport Seva 2.0, a major upgrade to the passport issuance system, introducing e-passports equipped with cutting-edge technology, improved security, and faster processing times for citizens across the country.
What is an E-Passport?
An e-passport is a modern, smart travel document embedded with a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip in the back cover. This chip securely stores personal and biometric data, including the holder's name, photograph, date of birth, and fingerprints, making it highly secure and difficult to tamper with.

The e-passport complies with international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), ensuring smooth processing at airports around the world. Visually, it can be identified by a gold-coloured symbol on the front cover, denoting its smart-chip feature.
