DUSU Elections 2024: Security Arrangements Reviewed For Peaceful Delhi University Students Union Elections

Delhi University (DU) is gearing up for the upcoming students union elections scheduled for September 27. The university administration recently held a meeting to discuss preparations, focusing on security measures. Voting in individual colleges will use ballot papers, while the central panel of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) will employ electronic voting machines (EVMs), according to an official statement.

The responsibility for organising college-level elections lies with each college's administration. They will handle the arrangements for voting through ballot papers. To ensure a smooth election process, adequate police personnel will be stationed on campus. "A meeting of University administration for smooth conduct of the DUSU Elections 2024-25 was held at 2.30 pm in the Council Hall at the Vice-Regal Lodge," stated the official communication.

Security Measures and Key Attendees

The meeting addressed security arrangements essential for conducting the DUSU elections. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) from the North Zone assured comprehensive police support to facilitate a seamless election process. "The DCP (North Zone) has assured all possible police arrangements for the smooth functioning of the DUSU elections," mentioned the statement.

Chaired by DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh, the meeting saw participation from key university officials. Attendees included the Dean of Colleges, Director of South Campus, Proctor, Dean of Students Welfare, Heads of Departments/Deans of Faculties, College Principals, DUSU Election officials, and police representatives from the North Zone.

Voting Methods and Equipment

For college elections, paper ballots will be used, with each college managing its own election logistics. "The college election will be held through paper ballot and arrangements will be made by the college itself," confirmed the statement. Meanwhile, EVMs are reserved exclusively for electing DUSU office bearers.

The university is committed to ensuring that all necessary arrangements are in place for a fair and transparent election process. This includes deploying sufficient security personnel and coordinating with local authorities to maintain order during voting.

The preparations underscore DU's dedication to facilitating democratic processes within its student body while prioritising safety and efficiency during elections.
