Dussehra 2023: In A Historic First For India, Kangana To Ignite Ravan At Red Fort Delhi

Dussehra 2023 is set to be a historic occasion as Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut is poised to become the first woman to ignite the effigy of Ravan at the renowned Lav Kush Ramlila ground at the Red Fort in Delhi today, 24th October. The talented actress shared this exciting news on her official Instagram account.

"In the 50 years of history of the event, held annually at the Red Fort, this will be the first time a woman will set the effigy of Ravana on fire. Jai Shri Ram," Kangana Ranaut expressed on the social media platform.

Adding to the significance of the event, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena are also expected to grace the festivities.

The President of the Lav Kush Ramleela Committee, Arjun Kumar, revealed that this year, in addition to the traditional "effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna, and Meghnath, effigies representing anti-Sanatan forces will be set ablaze in Delhi."

The committee's decision to include this symbolic representation was made in support of the Women's Reservation Bill, which was passed by Parliament in September, as reported by ANI.

Typically, the Prime Minister of the country presides over the Ravan Dahan ceremony. However, this year, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is occupied with elections, the Lav Kush Ramlila committee has extended an invitation to other dignitaries.

Delhi is hosting three grand Ramlilas organized by the Luv Kush Ram Leela Committee, Dharmik Ram Leela Committee, and Nav Dharmik Ram Leela Committee. These festivities have been ongoing at Madhav Das Park and 15th August Park, located in front of the Red Fort, since 15th October and will continue until 25th October, commencing daily at 6:00 pm.

Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut is currently engaged in promoting her forthcoming action film 'Tejas.' The movie centers around the remarkable journey of Tejas Gill, an Air Force pilot, aiming to inspire and evoke a deep sense of pride among every Indian by showcasing the tireless efforts of Indian Air Force pilots in defending the nation against numerous challenges.

The film, written and directed by Sarvesh Mewara and produced by Ronnie Screwvala, is scheduled for release in theaters on 27th October, 2023. In addition to 'Tejas,' Kangana also has the movie 'Emergency' in her pipeline.
