Durgapur Police Arrest Friend of Victim in West Bengal College Assault Case

A second-year medical student from a private college in West Bengal was allegedly raped on hospital grounds. Authorities in Durgapur have detained a close associate of the victim, increasing the number of suspects to six. The investigation revealed that the physical assault was carried out by one individual. "Based on technical and scientific evidence gathered, along with the survivor's account, we have determined that the sexual violation was carried out by one accused," stated Choudhary. "The roles of the other five are under rigorous scrutiny."

The father's complaint to police accused the friend of deceiving his daughter and luring her to an isolated spot under false pretenses. Concerns about the friend's involvement were repeatedly highlighted by Commissioner Choudhary. "His presence at the scene raises serious questions-his actions are far from clear," he noted.

The friend underwent multiple rounds of questioning as suspicions about his role persisted. By evening, these suspicions led to action when officers confirmed his arrest after taking him back to the wooded site for event reconstruction.
