Dry Day Today! Liquor Shops To Remain Closed On Sant Ravidas Jayanti 2025 In These States, Read Details
In India, certain days are designated as dry days when the sale of alcohol is prohibited. These include national holidays and religious festivals. While public sales are restricted, private consumption is generally permitted. However, states like Gujarat, Bihar, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Lakshadweep enforce stricter rules, banning both sale and consumption year-round.
Liquor shops in Delhi will remain closed on February 12 due to Guru Ravidas Jayanti. This day commemorates the birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas, a 15th-century saint linked to the Bhakti movement. The celebration takes place annually on this date.

Guru Ravidas Jayanti Celebrations
Delhi's Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena announced that Guru Ravidas Jayanti would be a full public holiday instead of a restricted one initially planned for November 2024. Uttar Pradesh has issued a similar notification regarding this change.
Several states have declared February 12 as a school holiday in honour of Ravidas Jayanti. These states include Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh. Consequently, government offices, schools, autonomous bodies, and public sector undertakings will be closed on this day.
Upcoming Dry Days in Delhi
Delhi experienced dry days from February 4 to 8 due to assembly elections. For the rest of February and March 2025, additional dry days include February 19 for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti and February 26 for Maha Shivaratri.
March will also see several dry days: March 5 for Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati Jayanti, March 14 for Holi, and March 31 for Eid-ul-Fitr. These dates reflect the cultural diversity and significance of various festivals celebrated across India.
