DRI Ahmedabad Cracks Down on Ketamine Smuggling Ring, Seizes 50 Kg of Drugs

Major Crackdown by DRI Ahmedabad

This operation marks the third major crackdown by DRI Ahmedabad in just three months. Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officials intercepted an export consignment at the air cargo complex of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. The consignment was declared as a chemical hydroxylimine hydrochloride and was destined for Bangkok, Thailand.

Examination and Confirmation of Ketamine

A thorough examination of the consignment was conducted in the presence of officers from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). The FSL team confirmed the presence of ketamine in the consignment, leading to its seizure under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Manufacturing Facility in Gandhinagar

A preliminary investigation revealed that the contraband was being manufactured at a factory in Dehgam taluka of Gandhinagar district. The individuals behind the racket planned to smuggle the ketamine out of the country via air.

Raid on the Factory and Arrests

With the assistance of the local police, DRI officials conducted a detailed search of the factory premises. During the raid, they recovered 46 kg of a powdery substance suspected to be NDPS narcotics. Three key persons involved in the smuggling attempt were arrested, and further investigation is underway.

The successful operation by DRI Ahmedabad has disrupted a major drug smuggling ring and prevented the illicit substance from reaching the international market. The arrests and seizures made during this operation are a significant step in combating the trafficking of synthetic drugs and safeguarding the health and well-being of communities.
