Don’t mess with.. CJI Chandrachud snaps at advocate
Chief Justice of India, D Y Chandrachud snapped at an advocate for trying to circumvent the system.
"Don't mess around with my authority," the CJI said during the mentioning of cases on Tuesday. To get an early date, the council sought to mention the case before another Bench, which the case was already listed before the CJI for April 17.

"Your date is 17th, you want to mention it before another bench to get a date of 14th?" Chief Justice Chandrachud said.
The counsel then submitted that a similar matter was taken up on Monday by the court and some fresh matters were also mentioned. "We are giving you the 17th. It will come up on 17th. Don't mention it somewhere else and get an early date," the CJI said.
The counsel said, "kindly excuse me."
"You are absolutely excused. But excuse me as well. 17th means 17th. Don't mess around with my authority," CJI Chandrachud said.
The CJI's court had witnessed a heated argument in March, when a senior counsel had sought to get a case listed as first item on board on a certain date.
"Don't threaten the Chief Justice. I will not be cowered down by you, the CJI had told the counsel.
Earlier this month, the CJI had said that the a humane touch of law is essential for ensuring that the law serves the needs and interests of all the people. It requires a willingness to be emphatic to the unique identities of people.
"A humane touch of law is essential for ensuring the law serves the needs and interests of all the people, it requires a willingness to be empathetic to the unique identities of people with a commitment to accessibility and fairness," the CJI had said.
"When the law is wisely applied and interpreted in the hands of judges it takes a step forward towards realising justice. But when the law is wielded without principle it can carry the burden of arbitrariness. For the judges and lawyers and for all of us as citizens, the constitutional path is reflected in the value of the preamble. These parameters provide the beacon for the unity of our nation and the stability of the social fabric," he said.
