Manipur MP Leishemba Sanajaoba Criticises Mizoram Lawmaker for Advocating Separate Administrative Units
Rajya Sabha member Leishemba Sanajaoba criticised Mizoram MP K Vanlalvena for suggesting separate administrative units for Meiteis and Kuki-Zos. Sanajaoba urged Vanlalvena to refrain from interfering in Manipur's affairs. Vanlalvena, from the Mizo National Front, a BJP ally, had called for the removal of the N Biren Singh government and the imposition of President's Rule in Manipur to address ongoing violence.

Vanlalvena proposed a two-step approach to resolve ethnic tensions in Manipur. He emphasised that President's Rule is necessary as an immediate measure. During this period, he suggested that the Centre should assess the situation and delineate territories occupied by Meiteis and tribal communities. This, he believes, would help manage the conflict effectively.
Separate Administration Proposal
The Mizoram MP argued for separate administration due to the significant divide between the communities. He noted that hill tribes avoid the valley, while Meiteis fear entering hill areas. Vanlalvena proposed creating new administrative units in regions inhabited by both Meiteis and Kuki-Zo people to achieve a lasting resolution.
Sanajaoba responded on social media, urging Vanlalvena to focus on issues within his own state and avoid meddling in Manipur's matters. "My friend, Don't cross the line.. Please confine in your state issues.. Stop interferences in Manipur's issues.. Be a good neighbour," Sanajaoba stated in a post on X.
Ethnic Ties and Conflict
The ethnic conflict in Manipur has claimed over 250 lives since May last year. The Kuki-Zo people of Manipur have ethnic connections with Mizos, adding complexity to the situation. Vanlalvena's comments have sparked debate about how best to address these longstanding tensions.
Vanlalvena believes that separate governance for Meiteis and Kuki-Zos could bridge the divide between them. He highlighted that the current situation prevents both communities from accessing each other's territories safely, necessitating administrative changes.
The ongoing violence and ethnic tensions require careful consideration and effective solutions. While opinions differ on how to achieve peace, it is clear that any resolution must consider the needs and safety of all affected communities.
