‘Donkeys inspire me to work hard’, Modi’s perfect reply to Akhilesh’s gadhe jibe
At an election rally in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, PM Narendra Modi said donkeys inspire him to work hard.
Lucknow, Feb 24: It took Prime Minister Narendra Modi three days to reply to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's 'Gujarat ke gadhe' comment, but nonetheless it was a perfect answer, as supporters of Modi feel.
At an election rally in Bahraich, UP, on Thursday, Modi said he was proud to take inspiration from the donkey that serves its master day in and day out without prejudice and caring for itself. "The people of the country are the bosses. I work tirelessly for them and will continue to do so." "For the donkey, it didn't matter if it was carrying a sack of sugar or lime on its back but just committed to doing its duty," the PM added.

On Monday, Akhilesh made an 'opaque' attack against Modi while referring to an advertisement of Gujarat government in which Amitabh Bachchan promotes tourism in the state. He had said: "Ek gadhe ka vigyapan aata hai, main iss sadi ke sabse bade mahanayak se kahunge ke ab aap Gujarat ke gadhon ka prachar mat kariye (I would urge the Superstar of the Century-Amitabh-to stop advertising for donkeys of Gujarat)."
In fact, Akhilesh repeated the 'donkey' taunt on Wednesday at a public meeting in Bahraich. "There are lions and cheetahs in Bahraich but I don't want to talk about donkeys," Akhilesh said. Akhilesh's remarks came a day after the PM stirred a controversy by accusing the ruling Samajwadi Party of UP of indulging in discriminatory politics between Hindus and Muslims while providing access to electricity and graveyard facilities.
"Akhilesh has shown so much hatred for Gujarat where Dayanand Saraswati, Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel were born... where Lord Krishna chose to settle. This is our country, this much hate doesn't suit you. I am surprised that no minister of state government has given his report card. And yet, without any shame they come on TV and say 'kaam bolta hai'," Modi added.
