Don’t kill yourself: Smriti Irani recalls her conversation with Sushant Singh Rajput

Union Minister Smriti Irani has recalled her conversation with late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput whose untimely death came as a big shock to the film fraternity and fans in 2020.

In an interview, the minister revealed that she was having a video conference when she heard the news of Rajput's alleged 'suicide'.

"The day Sushant died, I was on a VC (video conference). There were many people. But I just couldn't... I said stop it. I felt like, why did he not call me? He should have called once. I had told that boy, 'Tum yaar maarna mat apne aap ko (Please don't kill yourself)," The Times Now quoted Irani as saying during a chat with Neelesh Misra on The Slow Interview.

Irani said that she called Amit Sadh, Sushant's co-star in 'Kai Po Che' as she worried for him and might do something wrong.

"Instantly, I was scared for Amit Sadh. I called him and asked him what he is up to. I knew, kuch gadbad karega bachcha (he would do something stupid). Usne mujhe kaha, mujhe nahi rehna, kya kiya iss idiot ne (He told me, I don't want to live, what did this idiot do) I got the sense that something is wrong. Publicist Rohini Iyer told me, 'I am very scared, somebody just find him'," Irani said.

Irani stated that she spoke to him for six hours following the actor's death.

When Irani was the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, the BJP leader had invited Sushant Singh Rajput for a masterclass on the IFFI stage, she revealed.

Sushant Singh Rajput died by suicide in June 2020. Rajput was found hanging in his flat in suburban Bandra.

Last month, an employee of a civic-run hospital in Mumbai who had performed postmortem of Sushant Singh Rajput claimed the actor didn't die by suicide and his body had marks of fracture. "When I saw Rajput's body, there were marks of fracture and some marks around his neck due to some pressure. The marks of strangulation and hanging are different as I had been performing autopsies for nearly 28 years," Roopkumar Shah, who worked as a mortuary assistant, told news channels.

Roopkumar Shah, who retired from service last November from Cooper Hospital, didn't present any proof to back his claims.
