Doctors call off strike after meeting with Delhi Government
Resident doctors in state government run hospitals in Delhi have called off their strike to protest against the Delhi Government's move to increase OPD timings, following a meeting with the state government.
According to a report in a national daily, the doctors' union said, "A meeting was held today [on Tuesday] at the Delhi Secretariat. The attendees of the meeting included senior health officials and representatives of the doctors. We raised the issue of the additional OPD timing,"
Following the meeting between doctors and the state government, the registration timings for OPD was reduced by an hour, however no changes have been made in the extended OPD timing.
The earlier timings were 9am to 1pm, while the OPD registration timings were from 8:30 am to 12 noon.
On October 9 order, the AAP-led Delhi government had extended the timings, from 8am to 2 pm to avoid crowding.
At least 15,000 resident doctors across all state-run hospitals had protested against the government's decision to increase the timings by wearing black ribbons at work and shutting down services.
Dr Vivek Chouksey, president of the Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) said to India Today, "It is (a) good decision that government is working to shorten the overcrowded OPD rush, these issues can also be solved by recruiting more doctors, pharmacists and putting up more registration counters,"
