West Bengal Doctors Organise 10-Day Demonstration Over RG Kar Hospital Rape-Murder Case

The West Bengal Joint Platform of Doctors (WBJPD) is set to commence a sit-in protest in Kolkata. This demonstration, starting on Tuesday, addresses the CBI's handling of the RG Kar hospital rape and murder case. Two main suspects in the case were recently granted bail, prompting the protest. The WBJPD plans to continue their demonstration at Doreena Crossing until December 26.

Doctors 10-Day Protest Over RG Kar Case

Doctor Punyabrata Gun, a joint convener of WBJPD, stated, "We also demand the immediate submission of the supplementary chargesheet by the CBI." The organisation has reached out to Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma for permission to hold the 10-day protest. They assured authorities that the event would be peaceful and adhere to legal and safety protocols.

Demands for Justice and Safety

The WBJPD has requested police assistance to ensure participant safety during the demonstration. They plan to set up a temporary stage without disrupting traffic flow. Gun emphasised their commitment to maintaining order throughout the protest. The group seeks justice for the deceased doctor and accountability from those involved in the investigation.

On Saturday, WBJPD organised a march to the CBI office at CGO Complex in Salt Lake. This action was part of their ongoing efforts to highlight concerns over the investigation's progress. The death of an on-duty female doctor at RG Kar Medical College on August 9 sparked widespread protests across India.

Legal Proceedings and Bail Decisions

Recently, a Sealdah court granted bail to Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, and Abhijit Mondal, ex-officer-in-charge of Tala police station. Their release followed the CBI's failure to submit a charge sheet within 90 days. This development has intensified calls for accountability and transparency in the investigation process.

The WBJPD's actions reflect broader concerns about justice and safety within medical institutions. Their protest aims to bring attention to these issues while demanding swift action from authorities. As they continue their demonstration, they hope for meaningful progress in addressing these critical concerns.
