Doctored Amit Shah Video On Reservation Goes Viral, Revanth Reddy Summoned On May 1

The Delhi Police summoned Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for allegedly sharing a fake video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Reddy has been asked to appear on May 1 and bring the mobile phone he allegedly used to post the video on X (formerly Twitter). The police will also investigate his phone.

The Delhi Police registered a case on Sunday after a complaint by the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the doctored video of Amit Shah. The case was registered under various sections of the IPC and relevant provisions of the IT Act.

According to the complaint filed by Sinku Sharan Singh, DC, Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), some doctored videos circulating on social media aim to create disharmony among communities, potentially affecting public tranquility and order. The complaint included links to the videos for further action. A copy of the FIR was also sent to the IFSO unit of the Delhi Cyber Police.

Earlier, the Delhi Police registered a case regarding a doctored video circulating on social media platforms. The video falsely depicts Shah advocating for the abolition of reservation quotas for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). The video has sparked controversy and allegations of misinformation, leading the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to file a complaint seeking action against those responsible.

In response to concerns raised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the authenticity of the video, the Delhi Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) on Sunday. The BJP has denounced the video by saying that it has been manipulated to distort Shah's original statements made during a political rally.

According to BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya, the video in question has been altered to misrepresent Shah's remarks on the issue of reservation quotas for Muslims in Telangana.

The controversy surrounding the video escalated as several social media accounts, including those affiliated with the Congress, shared the doctored footage. They alleged that it exposed the BJP's "agenda to abolish SC/ST reservation quotas." These claims have been strongly criticized by BJP leaders, who accuse the Congress of spreading misinformation that could fuel social unrest.
