Global Diplomatic Missions Witness Vibrancy of Indian Democracy at PM Modi's Delhi Rally
On a sweltering Saturday in northeast Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally drew not only a large crowd of fervent supporters but also international attention. Representatives from 13 diplomatic missions across the globe were present to observe the vibrancy of India's democratic process in action. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had announced that 25 delegates from countries including Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Indonesia, Japan, Mauritius, Nepal, Russia, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and the United Kingdom would attend this significant event during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

The enthusiasm was palpable hours before Prime Minister Modi's arrival, with attendees braving the Delhi heat. Chants of "Modi, Modi" filled the air, and the crowd showcased their support through various means, including carrying cut-outs of the Prime Minister. Alka Singh, a resident of West Delhi, expressed her eagerness to see Modi despite the challenging weather conditions. "It was not a compulsion; I came because I wished to see Modi," she stated, highlighting the personal support and anticipation for the rally.
As the evening approached and Prime Minister Modi reached the venue via helicopter after 6 pm, the atmosphere electrified with chants and expressions of support. The visual spectacle included a boy holding a sketch of Prime Minister Modi and his mother and a group of women adorned in saffron sarees featuring the BJP's lotus symbol.
Prem Nath from Bhajanpura shared his excitement about witnessing the national leader in person. He took a day off from his job at a jewellery shop to attend the rally. Nath's sentiments reflect a broader appreciation for the government's achievements, including the removal of Article 370. "He has done a lot for the nation and yes, we want him to continue for another term to lead the nation," Nath remarked.
The rally also served as a platform for cultural expression with performances by folk artists from Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Haryana. Anjita Singh from Shahdara voiced her support for Modi's government, citing initiatives like the provision of LPG cylinders under Ujjwala Yojana as pivotal in offering relief to women. "We see hope in him and will vote for the saffron party. Our vote will go for nationalism, for Ram Temple, and for unity of the nation," Singh said.
Held at a Delhi Development Authority (DDA) ground at Pushta number 4 of Yamuna Khadar under the Ghonda assembly seat within the Northeast Delhi parliamentary constituency, security at the event was stringent. The Delhi Police were joined by National Security Guard (NSG), paramilitary personnel, Delhi Fire Services, National Cadet Corps (NCC), and home guards to ensure safety around the venue.
This convergence of local enthusiasm and international interest at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally underscores not only the dynamic nature of India's democracy but also its significance on the global stage. With representatives from various countries in attendance, the event highlighted India's democratic vibrancy and its role in shaping global political discourse.
