Sheila Dikshit voices concern over abuse
New Delhi, Sept 12: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday said Delhi police is being sensitized to deal with cases of abuse and violence against children and women but voiced concern over rise in such incidents taking place within the four walls of house.

"Police are trying better now, but it's a long haul. Police forces are being sensitized quickly and prepared to use electronic gadgets to be able to pursue these cases. "But when abuse takes place inside a house, then it becomes difficult. You can stop abuse on the roads, in open spaces. But how do we stop abuse that happens inside homes," Dikshit said.

Dikshit stressed on better education and developing a whole mileu of culture in the society to prevent this menace. "We need better education, we have to develop a culture of sensitivity towards children," she said while addressing the delegates at the 28th Congress of Confederation of Medical Associations in Asia and Oceania (CMAAO).

In the wake of increasing reports of child abuse, thousands of national and international delegates gathered on Thursday to discuss measures and guidelines for prevention of abuse. Narender Saini, General Secretary, Indian Medical Association (IMA) said that the term protection relates to protection from all forms of violence, abuse and exploitation.

"This underlines the importance of anticipating and averting what might happen to damage and demean a child-not just response to hurt inflicted," he said.
