Dharmendra Pradhan, The Architect Behind BJP’s Haryana Hat-Trick
Dharmendra Pradhan, a key figure in the BJP's Haryana triumph, is known for his quiet yet effective approach. As a trusted aide of Amit Shah, he has played a crucial role in the party's electoral strategies. His reputation as a problem-solver for challenging states has been well-earned over the years.
Pradhan's involvement in Haryana came at a time when the BJP faced significant challenges. The party was dealing with anti-incumbency sentiments and dissatisfaction among various groups, including Jats, farmers, and army aspirants upset with the Agniveer scheme. Also, internal discord over ticket distribution added to the complexity.

In response to these challenges, Pradhan immersed himself in the state for over a month. He established bases in Rohtak, Kurukshetra, and Panchkula to stay connected with local dynamics. His strategy involved engaging directly with party workers and leaders to gather insights and communicate them to the central leadership.
A BJP leader noted that Pradhan held small meetings on the ground to gather real-time feedback from workers. This allowed him to address issues promptly and pacify disgruntled individuals. He also identified weak booths and brought in strong workers from other parties to bolster support.
One of Pradhan's significant achievements was managing internal dissent within the party. Initially, around 25 rebels threatened to contest elections independently. However, by the time nominations were withdrawn, only three remained—a testament to Pradhan's negotiation skills.
"After the announcement of the names of BJP candidates, there came a time when it seemed that the rebel candidates of BJP would spoil the game," told a BJP leader ti NDTV on the condition of anonymity. "But it was the success of Mr Pradhan and his team that as the date of withdrawal of nomination papers came near, only three rebels were left."
Pradhan's expertise extends beyond Haryana. He previously managed elections in Uttarakhand in 2017 and Uttar Pradesh in 2022. His long-term focus on Odisha culminated in a victory for the BJP this year. In West Bengal's 2021 elections, he handled Nandigram—where Mamata Banerjee lost despite her party's overall success.
The BJP's efforts under Pradhan's leadership resulted in winning 48 out of 90 assembly seats in Haryana while the Congress secured 37 seats.
