Dhanteras 2023: These Unlucky Items You Should Avoid Buying On This Day
Dhanteras is a significant Hindu festival that marks the commencement of the five-day Diwali celebration, known as the Festival of Lights. This year, Dhanteras falls on November 10. It's a day when people offer prayers to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kuber, seeking prosperity and wealth. They often acquire metal or clay idols of Lakshmi and Ganesh for their homes.
Additionally, it's considered auspicious to purchase gold, silver, gold ornaments, new copper, silver, and brass utensils, as well as other household items like appliances, vehicles, phones, laptops, refrigerators, microwaves, brooms, and more. Nevertheless, there are certain items that you should absolutely refrain from purchasing on Dhanteras. Here's a list of things you should avoid buying on this auspicious occasion.

Items to Avoid Buying on Dhanteras
- Iron: It's considered inauspicious to buy iron utensils or iron-made items on Dhanteras. There's a belief that Lord Kuber, the God of wealth, doesn't bestow his blessings on those who purchase iron on this day.
- Steel: Although many follow the tradition of acquiring steel items and utensils on Dhanteras, it's advisable to steer clear of steel purchases. Instead, you can opt for copper or bronze items.
- Sharp Objects: Since Dhanteras is a day of auspiciousness, people generally avoid buying sharp objects such as knives and scissors, as it's believed that these items may bring bad luck to the family.
- Empty Vessels: Purchasing utensils or vessels that are empty or devoid of food or water doesn't hold significance since no shop typically adds these contents for you. Hence, people usually fill them with water or food before bringing them into their homes on Dhanteras.
- Glassware: Acquiring glassware or glass items on Dhanteras is considered inauspicious, as these objects are associated with Rahu.
- Aluminium and Plastic Products: Shoppers are advised to stay away from aluminium and plastic products during Dhanteras. Instead, it's better to opt for articles made of metal.
- Oil/Ghee: Purchasing oil or ghee on Dhanteras is regarded as inauspicious. If someone requires these ingredients, it's recommended to buy them a day before or after Dhanteras.
- Fake Gold: Gold is a popular choice for shopping on Dhanteras, but counterfeit gold jewelry, coins, and other items should be avoided.
