DGCA Probe Ordered After IndiGo Surat–Dubai Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Ahmedabad

Panic gripped passengers on IndiGo flight 6E-1507 from Surat to Dubai on Tuesday morning after the aircraft developed engine trouble mid-air, forcing an emergency landing at Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. More than 150 passengers were on board when the incident occurred, but thanks to the pilot's swift action, a potential disaster was narrowly avoided.

The Airbus, which had taken off from Surat International Airport earlier in the day, experienced abnormal engine performance while cruising. The issue triggered emergency protocols, prompting the pilot to divert the flight to Ahmedabad.

"The safety of our passengers is our top priority. The captain followed all standard operating procedures and ensured the aircraft landed safely in Ahmedabad," IndiGo said in a statement.

Fear on Board, Relief After Safe Landing

As word of the technical fault spread inside the cabin, passengers grew visibly anxious. Some began praying, while others rushed to call relatives after being informed about the diversion.

"Everyone was tense. The crew reassured us not to panic, but fear was evident on every face. It was only once we touched down safely in Ahmedabad that we finally felt relieved," said Rakesh Patel, a passenger traveling to Dubai for business.

Despite the emergency situation, witnesses said the landing was smooth. All passengers disembarked safely, and airport officials confirmed there were no injuries or casualties.

Passengers Continue Journey on Replacement Aircraft

Following the incident, IndiGo's engineering team began inspecting the grounded plane to identify the cause of the engine malfunction. While the investigation continues, the airline arranged a replacement aircraft to ensure travelers reached Dubai the same day.

By late afternoon, the passengers had boarded the alternate flight and resumed their journey. "We regret the inconvenience caused but are thankful the matter was handled professionally and safely," the airline added.

Aviation Safety Concerns

The incident has once again drawn attention to recurring technical glitches in Indian aviation at a time when air traffic is surging. Industry experts noted that while such malfunctions are unpredictable, the preparedness and decision-making of flight crews are crucial.

A former aviation safety officer, requesting anonymity, said, "This case highlights the unpredictability of in-flight technical faults. But it also underlines why rigorous pilot training is essential. The captain's quick decision to divert was absolutely correct and prevented what could have been a far worse situation."

Probe Underway

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been informed, and a detailed inquiry will be conducted to establish whether the fault stemmed from mechanical failure or another technical snag. Authorities confirmed the aircraft will remain grounded until it is declared airworthy.
