Devotees Flock to Dal Lake for Holy Bath on Radha Ashtami in Himachal
Thousands of devotees gathered at Dal Lake on Wednesday to take a holy bath for Radha Ashtami. Pilgrims performed rituals and joined community feasts throughout the day. Some arrived as early as 4 am for the bath.

Significance of Dal Lake and Radha Ashtami
Bathing in Dal Lake on Radha Ashtami is considered highly auspicious in Himachal Pradesh. It is believed to offer the same spiritual benefits as bathing in Mani Mahesh Sarovar. This serves as an alternative for those unable to undertake the challenging journey to Mani Mahesh.
The lake remained lively with activity all day. The taxi operator union organised a feast for devotees from 8 am to 4 pm, continuing their annual tradition. Shahpur MLA Kewal Singh Pathania inaugurated the cultural programme on this occasion.
Infrastructure and Tourism Development Plans
Pathania emphasised the importance of Dal Lake and the Durveshwar Temple as symbols of deep faith. He announced a comprehensive plan to promote pilgrimage and tourism activities in the area, ensuring a greater influx of visitors. A Dal Lake Development Committee will be established to oversee the lake's beautification.
Pathania also highlighted plans for promoting eco-tourism in the region. The forest department and rural development department have been directed to take necessary actions. Special attention is being given to improve transport facilities in Dal Lake, Naddi, and McLeodganj, ensuring tourists face no inconvenience.
Cultural Programme Highlights
At the cultural programme, Tibetan children performed Rajasthani and Pahari folk dances. This was the first time such a programme was organised during the holy bath on Radha Ashtami at Dal Lake. Pathania made some infrastructure-related announcements for the area and shared updates on the proposed Dhauladhar Expressway from McLeodganj to Dalhousie.
The Congress leader stated, "A comprehensive plan will be developed to promote pilgrimage and tourism activities in the area, ensuring a greater influx of visitors." He added that a Dal Lake Development Committee would be established to oversee the lake's beautification.
In addition, Pathania mentioned that special attention is being given to improve transport facilities in Dal Lake, Naddi, and McLeodganj. He said this would ensure tourists face no inconvenience.
The event concluded with Pathania highlighting plans for promoting eco-tourism in the region. The forest department and rural development department have been directed to take necessary actions.
The gathering at Dal Lake for Radha Ashtami was a significant event, reflecting deep faith and community spirit among devotees.
