Devendra Pratap Singh: BJPs Rajya Sabha Pick from Chhattisgarh
Devendra Pratap Singh, a scion of the erstwhile Gond tribal royal family and an active member of RSS, has been chosen as the BJPs candidate for the Rajya Sabha election from Chhattisgarh.

Raipur, February 11: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has chosen Devendra Pratap Singh as its candidate for the lone Rajya Sabha vacancy from Chhattisgarh. Singh, a scion of the erstwhile Gond tribal royal family of Raigarh, is the incumbent Zila Panchayat member from Lailunga in Raigarh district.
Replacing Saroj Pandey
Singh will replace Saroj Pandey, whose term in the Upper House of Parliament is set to expire. Pandey is one of the five Rajya Sabha members from Chhattisgarh, along with KTS Tulsi, Phulodevi Netam, Ranjeet Rajan, and Rajiv Shukla of the Congress.
Active Member of RSS
Singh is not only a prominent member of the BJP but also an active member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He is the grandson of the late Raja Chakradhar Singh, a patron of classical dance and music.
Railway Hindi Advisory Committee
In addition to his political and social engagements, Singh is also a member of the Railway Hindi Advisory Committee under the Ministry of Railways.
Congratulatory Messages
Following the announcement of Singh's nomination, State Finance Minister OP Choudhary took to social media to congratulate him. "Congratulations to my elder, the king of Raigarh, the strong signature of Gond community, simple and gentle natured, respected brother Shri Devendra Pratap Singh ji for being nominated as Rajya Sabha candidate," Choudhary wrote on his Twitter handle.
Assembly Strength
In the 90-member state Assembly, the ruling BJP holds a majority with 54 MLAs, while the Congress has 35. The Gondwana Gantantra Party has one member in the assembly.
Devendra Pratap Singh's nomination as the BJP's candidate for the Rajya Sabha election from Chhattisgarh reflects the party's focus on tribal representation and its commitment to strengthening its presence in the state.
