Demonetisation- Sleepless nights not just for black money hoarders, but taxman too

The tax man has been kept busy watching over banks and jewellery stores to track down black money hoarders.

New Delhi, Nov 28: Post demonetisation, the tax man is extremely busy.

Facing an acute shortage of man power, the Income Tax department has cancelled the leaves granted to all its investigators.

Moreover the IT department has begun sourcing people from other departments.

The tax man has been kept busy watching over banks and jewellery stores to track down black money hoarders.

The tax man has been conducted several raids across the country to ensure that not a penny goes unaccounted.

The problems are immense says an IT department official who has been part of at least 20 raids in the past 10 days.

Not only do we have to track down the transactions but also deal with goons.

There are several black money hoarders and hawala operatives who have security guards.

These persons are tough to deal with and in many cases we need to take help from the local cops, the officer says.

The officer also adds that interrogating such persons is not easy either.

Third degree treatment is a strict no and we need to elicit information based on tough questions alone. Many refuse to answer questions.

They even are adamant when it comes to sharing information. Do what you please is the standard answer that we get from most people, the officer also adds.
