Chennai, Nov 28: DMK, which is a Congress ally, on Monday took out a protest march in Chennai against the Centre's demonetisation decision with hundreds of party workers marching the streets with party flags.
Several police personnel were seen at the march to prevent any untowards incident from taking place.
As per latest reports, DMK Treasurer and Tamil Nadu Opposition Leader M K Stalin has been taken into preventive custody.
According to reports, party chief M Karunanidhi earlier said 'opposition leaders' had decided to hold countrywide protests against the ruling BJP on the issue and that DMK will protest outside central government offices in Tamil Nadu.
He urged good participation by party workers and asked them to voice support against this "anti-people" move of the Centre.
DMK on Friday backed former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his criticism on the way the BJP government has implemented demonetisation and charged Prime Minister Narendra Modi with ignoring the people by not responding to Singh's queries on the matter.
DMK Treasurer and Tamil Nadu Opposition Leader M K Stalin had said, "Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh put it beautifully when he called it a monumental management failure."
The opposition parties had last week said that November 28 will be marked by nation-wide strike against Narendra Modi government's decision to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes on November 8.
