Delimitation Bill Triggers Fiery Debate Between Akhilesh Yadav and Amit Shah

A heated confrontation in the Lok Sabha brought the spotlight squarely on the proposed delimitation exercise, as Akhilesh Yadav and Union Home Minister Amit Shah sparred over its timing and implications. The tense exchange prompted Speaker Om Birla to briefly intervene as tempers flared.

Raising concerns, Akhilesh Yadav questioned the government's push to link women's reservation with delimitation, arguing that any redrawing of constituencies without updated Census data would be premature. He maintained that the exercise could significantly alter political representation and should only follow a comprehensive Census, including caste-based data.

The debate quickly widened, with Opposition members voicing fears that delimitation could reshape the balance of power among states. Treasury benches, however, argued that the process is a constitutional necessity aimed at ensuring fair representation based on population changes.
