Delhi: Woman kills abusive husband, sleeps next to him for 2 days

A woman from Delhi planned a Bollywood movie like murder of her 'abusive husband' on July 22. But the woman told her neighbours that her husband had suffered a cardiac arrest. But the police informer smelled something fishy minutes before the body was cremated and informed the police.

Shilpi Adhikari, 32-year-old woman, who hails from West Bengal killed her husband as he used to often beat her. The couple had two kids, aged 13 and 11, who live with their maternal grandmother in West Bengal.

Shilpi worked as as a housekeeping employee at the Royal Bank of Scotland. She had planned to kill Nitish, who was an abusive drinker and thrashed her mercilessly. She almost got away with it but a police informer noticed strangulation marks on the Nitish's neck minutes before the body was about to be cremated and informed the police.

The day Shilpi murdered her husband, she had got an extra bottle of alcholol from a local shop near her house and told her husband that it was her treat and continued giving him alcohol till late night. Soon after he passed out, she strangulated him. Later, Shilpi even slept beside the body for two days.

It was over 48 hours, Shilpi did not step out of the house and on Monday morning, at around 9 am, Shilpi started crying outside her house. She told the locals that her husband had suffered a heart attack and died in his sleep.

Locals believed her story and informed the police. Since, Nitish's body started smelling, the locals advised that the body be cremated.

Locals reached the cremation place with the body. However, when the body was about to be cremated, a police informer noticed some marks on Nitish's body and also realised that the smell emanating from the body wasn't normal and informed the police who then rushed to the spot and stopped the locals from cremating the body.

The police then sent the body for post mortem. According to the Doctors, the man had died of strangulation more than 72 hours before the body was brought for post mortem.

Shilpi was detained from the spot, and was later arrested.
