Delhi Weather Forecast: Dense Fog With Cold Waves Predicted For Wednesday, Check Temperature Here

The Delhi weather forecast predicts dense fog with temperatures ranging from 6 to 24 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the air quality worsens, with the AQI entering the 'severe' category, raising public health concerns.

The weather department has forecasted dense fog for Delhi on Wednesday. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 24 degrees Celsius, while the minimum could drop to 6 degrees Celsius. On Tuesday, the city recorded a minimum of 5.9 degrees Celsius, which is 2.2 degrees below normal, and a maximum of 24.4 degrees Celsius, slightly above average.

Humidity levels in Delhi fluctuated between 67% and 97% on Tuesday, but no cold wave conditions were reported in any part of the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) noted that the minimum temperature was recorded at 5 degrees Celsius.

Air Quality Concerns

Delhi's air quality has deteriorated further, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) breaching the 400 mark and entering the 'severe' category. At 7 AM on Tuesday, the AQI was measured at 421. Areas like Anand Vihar, Ashok Vihar, Bawana, Jahangirpuri, and Alipur reported AQI values ranging from 400 to 470.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) classified Delhi's air quality as "Very Poor." Bhagat Singh, a local resident, expressed concern: "Pollution has become an incurable disease, especially for Delhi. This is a problem every year. Earlier, several people went for a morning walk here, but now, a lot of them have quit due to pollution. A willpower by the government is needed to resolve this issue."

Impact of Fog

A resident mentioned that visibility was severely affected due to fog: "The temperature was about 7 degrees Celsius, and because of the fog, cars were not visible on the road. However, as soon as the fog cleared, we could see the cars."

The Sub-Committee of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) enforced Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across the National Capital Region (NCR) on Monday night due to worsening air quality.

Response Measures

This decision followed after Delhi's AQI exceeded 400; it was recorded at 399 at 9 PM on Monday and crossed into severe territory at 401 by 10 PM. Earlier GRAP-III restrictions had been reinstated across NCR when AQI surpassed 350 amid unfavourable meteorological conditions affecting pollutant dispersion.
