Delhi Wakes Up To Light Rain, IMD Issues Heavy Snowfall Alert For 6 Himachal Districts

Delhi and its adjoining areas on Sunday woke up to light rainfall on Sunday as the temperature dropped to 10 degrees Celsius. The national capital will have a cloudy sky and intermittent light rain showers throughout the day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

According to IMD Scientist Naresh, there is another disturbance on the horizon that will affect weather conditions in the mountainous regions of North India this weekend. This comes after the recent wet weather caused by a western disturbance.

"Another Western Disturbance will start affecting from tomorrow, which will lead to heavy snowfall and rainfall in the mountain regions. Rainfall and snowfall may be expected between 75 to 100 per cent of the stations," ANI quoted him as saying.

Naresh also mentioned that on February 4, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh can expect snowfall, while Punjab, Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, and North-West Madhya Pradesh may experience mild hailstorms.

"Whenever there is Western Disturbance it leads to changes in wind patterns. So it leads to a rising tendency in temperature. So we do not expect that the temperature will drop in north-west India and central India. Temperatures will increase during the morning. Dense fog may be expected in the morning in isolated pockets in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi NCR," Naresh added.

He stated that there will be no occurrence of cold wave conditions in northern India over the upcoming days due to the western disturbance.

On the other hand, the IMD has issued an orange alert for snowfall in Himachal Pradesh on February 4 and 5. The weather department predicts light to moderate snowfall in most areas and heavy snowfall in isolated areas of the mid and high hills. They have also warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms in lower regions, and expect a period of wet weather in the state until February 6.
