Delhi University Enhances Safety Measures with CCTV Cameras for Womens Protection
Delhi University takes proactive steps to ensure womens safety by mandating CCTV cameras outside womens toilets and changing rooms during fests, following a concerning incident at IIT-Delhi.
In response to a recent incident at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, where women were secretly filmed while changing, Delhi University (DU) has issued new guidelines to ensure the safety of its students during fests and other events.

CCTV Cameras for Women's Safety
The university has directed its colleges to install CCTV cameras outside women's toilets and changing rooms during fests. This measure aims to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure the privacy of female students.
Comprehensive Security Measures
In addition to CCTV cameras, DU has also advised its colleges and departments to install CCTV camera arrangements at all gates of the institutes and hostels. This will help in monitoring the movement of people and deter any potential security threats.
Assessment of Boundary Walls
To prevent outsiders from scaling the walls and entering the premises, the colleges have been asked to conduct an assessment of their boundary walls before any big event. Low concertina wires will be installed to further enhance security.
Centralized Public Announcement System
The advisory also suggests the installation of a centralized public announcement system at all gates of the institute. This will enable quick and effective communication in case of any emergency or security breach.
Advanced Security Liaison Meetings
Before any major event where students from outside are invited, the administration must hold an advanced security liaison meeting with all stakeholders. This will ensure that all necessary security measures are in place and that any potential risks are addressed.
Crowd Control and Structural Safety
To manage the crowd effectively, the advisory puts a cap on the strength of students allowed during fests. Additionally, colleges are required to check the structural stability of the stage during concerts and hire door frame metallic detectors. Proper lighting arrangements will also be made to cover dark patches.
Regulated Entry and Documentation
Entry to the events will be regulated through Google Forms, and copies of these forms must be submitted to the police and other concerned departments. This will help in maintaining a record of attendees and facilitating security checks.
Delhi University's proactive approach in implementing these safety guidelines demonstrates its commitment to providing a secure environment for its students. By taking these measures, the university aims to prevent incidents like the one that occurred at IIT-Delhi and ensure the safety and well-being of its students during fests and other events.
