Heavy Delhi Rains Claim Lives of Three, Including Two Young Children
Heavy rains in the national capital caused significant disruptions on Friday, leading to the tragic drowning of three individuals, including two children, in separate incidents, according to police officials.

In the first incident, two boys, aged eight and ten, drowned while playing in a rainwater-filled ditch in northeast Delhi. The incident occurred on Friday evening near Pusta No. 5 in the New Usmanpur area. The five-foot-deep ditch had filled with water due to the heavy rains.
Tragic Incidents Amid Heavy Rains
Upon receiving information about the boys, police rushed to the scene and rescued them. However, they were declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations, and further investigations are ongoing.
In another tragic event, a man in his late twenties drowned at a flooded underpass in northwest Delhi's Shalimar Bagh area. The deceased was identified as a part-time labourer at Azadpur Mandi, but his identity remains unknown.
Rescue Operations Underway
Additionally, three workers are feared trapped in a pit dug for wall construction at a plot in southwest Delhi's Vasant Vihar area. A police officer stated that the incident happened early on Friday morning. Rescue operations are expected to continue until late at night.
The heavy rains have severely impacted normal life in Delhi, causing waterlogging and traffic disruptions across various parts of the city. Authorities are urging residents to stay indoors and avoid venturing out unless necessary.
The police have advised people to stay away from waterlogged areas and exercise caution during such weather conditions. They also emphasised the importance of ensuring children do not play near water-filled ditches or other hazardous areas.
The recent incidents highlight the dangers posed by heavy rains and waterlogging in urban areas. Authorities are working to address these issues and prevent further tragedies.
The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any dangerous situations to the authorities promptly. Efforts are being made to improve drainage systems and prevent water accumulation in vulnerable areas.
These unfortunate events serve as a reminder of the need for better infrastructure and preparedness to handle extreme weather conditions. The safety of residents remains a top priority for local authorities.
As rescue operations continue, officials hope to locate and save the trapped workers in Vasant Vihar. The situation remains critical, with emergency services working tirelessly to manage the aftermath of the heavy rains.
The recent downpour has brought attention to the challenges faced by urban areas during monsoon seasons. It underscores the importance of effective urban planning and disaster management strategies.
The community's cooperation is essential during such times to ensure safety and minimise risks associated with severe weather conditions. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as needed.
