Delhi Rail Division Announces Crowd Control Measures Following Mumbai Stampede Incident
The Northern Railways and Delhi Rail Division have announced measures to manage crowds at New Delhi and Anand Vihar railway stations until 7 November. This decision follows a stampede at Mumbai's Bandra station, where ten people were injured as they tried to board a train to Gorakhpur for Diwali and Chhath Puja.

To handle the expected surge in passengers during Diwali and Chhath, special crowd management strategies are in place. A holding area has been established at New Delhi Railway Station's Ajmeri Gate side and Anand Vihar station. This area includes extra ticket counters, Automatic Ticket Vending Machines, enquiry desks, catering services, drinking water, and mobile toilets for passenger convenience.
Platform Changes and Ticket Sales
Some trains, such as Bihar Sampark Kranti 12566, Sampoorna Kranti 12394, Vaishali Express 12554, and Purshottam Express 12802, have been reassigned to specific platforms to improve crowd control. Additionally, platform ticket sales have been suspended during the festive period to reduce congestion at the stations.
Direct entry from the Delhi metro skywalk to the foot overbridge is temporarily closed. Passengers are advised to arrive at least an hour before their train's departure to avoid last-minute rushes. Signage at the Ajmeri Gate side circulating area will guide passengers, with assistance available at "May I Help You" counters or from railway staff.
Passenger Cooperation Requested
Northern Railways has requested passengers to follow these temporary measures for a smooth journey. "We request passengers to adhere to these temporary measures and thank them for their cooperation," stated the release. These efforts aim to ensure safety and convenience during the busy festive season.
