Delhi polls: Shazia Ilmi may fight against Arvind Kejriwal on BJP ticket
New Delhi, Jan 14: Buoyed by recent poll victories-first in Lok Sabha election and then State assembly polls, BJP seems to be in a mood to repeat its magic in Delhi assembly polls too.
As the Election Commission has announced the due date (Feb 7) for election in the capital, the Saffron party is not leaving any stone unturned this time as last time they fell short of four seats in 70 member Assembly.

BJP knows that AAP is the only competitor which can wobble its way to move into driver's seat in Delhi election. So the Saffron party is making all possible strategies to outshine the big opponent.
Reports say that former AAP member Shazia Ilmi may join BJP in couple of days. Ilmi who had left the AAP last year citing lack of democracy in the party may be fielded against Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi constituency.
Her stint in AAP
Former AAP leader Shazia Ilmi had lost Delhi Assembly election from R K Puram seat in 2013. She also lost Lok Sabha election from Gazhiabad seat, fought against BJP candidate, former Army chief VK Singh . Her humiliating defeat could be gauged from the fact that journalist turned politician couldn't even save her deposits in parliamentary election. Disillusioned and exhausted, Ilmi finally quit the party just after Lok Sabha result.
Political lineage
Shazia Ilmi is a television journalist cum social activist cum politician. Before joining politics, where she had series of controversies to her credit, Ilmi worked in TV industry continuously for 15 years. She was anchor at the Star news channel before turning into the role of social activist through Anna Hazare's India against corruption movement. She was spokesperson for the campaign (2011-12) which shot her to fame. She has her political lineage as one of her uncle is the member of Legislative Assembly in Uttar Pradesh Government.
