Delhi Polls 2025: PM Modi's Rally In National Capital Cancelled, Here's Why

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in Delhi, initially set for Sunday, has been postponed. This decision follows the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The nation is observing a seven-day state mourning period, prompting PM Modi to reschedule his event. The rally will now take place on 5 January at Japanese Park in Delhi.

The upcoming rally is part of PM Modi's efforts to bolster the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections. Although the Election Commission has yet to announce the election dates, speculation suggests an announcement might occur in early January. The BJP has not released its candidate list for the elections yet.

Election Preparations and Speculations

Initially planned for 29 December, PM Modi's rally was expected to coincide with the release of BJP's first list of candidates. However, this announcement may now be delayed due to the rescheduling. Reports indicate that around 25 candidates will be named, including former MPs, MLAs, and councilors.

In contrast, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has already declared candidates for all 70 assembly seats. Arvind Kejriwal will contest from New Delhi for the fourth time, having won previously thrice. Atishi will represent Kalkaji again after her victory there in 2020.

BJP's Strategy and Opposition Moves

The BJP plans to include individuals who have recently joined from other parties in their candidate list. Meanwhile, Congress has released two lists of candidates for the assembly elections. Sandeep Dixit, son of former MP Sheila Dixit, will challenge Kejriwal.

PM Modi's rally aims to energise party supporters and potentially offer significant announcements for Delhi residents. The event is crucial as it marks the beginning of BJP's campaign for the upcoming elections.
