Delhi Police PRO Denounces Media Distortion In NewsClick Case

In a recent turn of events, the Delhi Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Suman Nalwa, took to social media to address what she perceived as misreporting by two media organisations.

Delhi Police spokesperson Nalwa said that these media outlets distorted the official statement from Delhi Police and misled their readers by providing inaccurate information.

The controversy in question revolves around the NewsClick Row, a contentious issue that has garnered significant attention.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Nalwa firmly stated that she had not provided any media quotes regarding the NewsClick Row, which is at the heart of the dispute.

Furthermore, she made it clear that no interview had been given by her on this matter. This has led her to accuse the media organisations of engaging in misleading, unethical, and highly unprofessional conduct by attributing statements to her without her consent.

On Thursday, the Delhi Police arrested two persons, including NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha, as part of an ongoing probe into the portal's foreign funding, officials told news agency PTI.

This comes after the Delhi Police conducted searches at 30 locations connected with the online news portal and its journalists in a case filed under the anti-terror law UAPA following allegations that it received money for pro-China propaganda.

During the course of the investigation, the Delhi Police Special Cell questioned 37 male suspects at their office, while nine female suspects were interviewed at their respective places of stay. This wide-ranging probe involved the seizure of digital devices, documents, and other items for examination.

So far, two accused -- NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha and Amit Chakravarty -- have been arrested as reported by PTI.

There was no immediate information on how Chakravarty is connected with the portal and the case.
