Delhi Police provides security to Somnath Bharti's wife
New Delhi, June 11: Delhi Police has provided security to senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Somnath Bharti's wife, Lipika Mitra, the authorities said here on Thursday.
Mitra was provided security following her apprehensions about her safety.
"She had expressed her apprehensions to us and we have provided her full security," Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi said.
Bharti's wife had met Delhi Police officers on Wednesday evening regarding a domestic violence case.
A First Information Report (FIR) has not been filed as of now in this connection, police said.
Earlier on Wednesday, she had approached the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) alleging that the AAP leader has been abusing her ever since their marriage in 2010.
DCW issued summons to Somnath Bharti and asked him to appear before the commission on June 26.
The AAP legislator, who was a law minister in the earlier AAP government that came to power in Delhi in December 2013, has termed the charges "baseless".
