Delhi Police Files FIR in Alleged Assault on AAP MP Swati Maliwal; Kejriwal's Aide Named

On Thursday, the Delhi Police registered an FIR regarding the alleged assault on AAP MP Swati Maliwal by Bibhav Kumar, an aide of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The BJP criticised Kejriwal for remaining silent on the incident. Kumar has been named as an accused in the case and has been summoned by the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Friday.The FIR was filed after Maliwal's statement was recorded by a two-member team led by Additional Commissioner of Police P S Kushwaha. The FIR has been registered at the Civil Lines police station against Kumar under Indian Penal Code sections 354, 506, 509, and 323.Maliwal alleged that a member of Kejriwal's personal staff assaulted her at the CM's official residence. According to her statement, she was sitting in the drawing room when Kumar came and allegedly slapped her multiple times. She claimed that Kejriwal was present at his residence when the incident took place.The BJP attacked Kejriwal after he refused to comment on the Maliwal assault matter during a press conference in Lucknow. Kejriwal avoided a question on the issue, and it was fielded by Singh who said his party has already made its stand clear on the matter.BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia claimed that Kejriwal is the main criminal in the complaint that his aide Kumar had physically attacked Maliwal at the chief minister's residence. He said that Kumar was seen with the chief minister in Lucknow and called for stringent action against him.The NCW summoned Kumar after taking suo moto cognisance of a media post where Maliwal claimed that she was brutally assaulted at the chief minister's residence by Kumar. The Congress also called for strict action against those involved in the alleged assault on Maliwal.
