Delhi Achieves Third Highest Per Capita Income in India After Goa and Sikkim for 2023-24

Delhi's per capita income for 2023-24 reached Rs 4,61,910, ranking third in India after Goa and Sikkim. This figure is more than twice the national average of Rs 1,84,205, as per the latest statistical handbook. The annual publication by the Delhi government provides insights into the socio-economic, demographic, and infrastructure aspects of the capital.

The handbook highlighted a significant reduction in vehicles on Delhi's roads. The number decreased from 1.22 crore in 2020-21 to 79.45 lakh in 2022-23. This change reflects a notable shift in transportation trends within the city over these years.

Education and Water Supply Statistics

In education, the number of schools in Delhi dropped from 5,666 in 2020-21 to 5,497 in 2023-24. Despite this decline, student enrolment saw a slight increase. Boys' enrolment rose from 23.60 lakh to 23.70 lakh, while girls' numbers went from 21.19 lakh to 21.36 lakh during this period.

Water supply data showed an increase in metred connections from 25.4 lakh in 2021-22 to 27.2 lakh in 2023-24. Daily water consumption also rose significantly from 6,894 lakh kilolitres to 7,997 lakh kilolitres, indicating growing demand and usage.

Entertainment Sector Growth

The entertainment sector experienced growth with an increase in cinema screens from 137 in 2022 to 147 in 2023. The average number of shows per day also rose from 623 to 740, attracting a daily audience of around 10,000 people according to the handbook's data.

The handbook reported a yearly growth rate of 7.4% for Delhi's per capita income. This steady increase underscores the city's economic progress amidst various challenges and changes over recent years.
