Rain With Gusty Winds Lashes Delhi-NCR, IMD Predicts More Showers

Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) experienced a bout of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds. Some areas experienced rain accompanied by strong winds, while others grappled with waterlogging.

According to the weather department, the upcoming five days in Delhi are expected to be characterized by generally cloudy skies and light to moderate rainfall.

Delhi-NCR Sees Morning Showers, More Rain Expected Later

On Thursday, the maximum temperature soared to 37.6 degrees Celsius, which was four degrees above the seasonal average, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 27.8 degrees.

Skymet, a private weather forecasting agency, anticipates that the national capital and its neighboring regions will witness increased rainfall due to the influence of a low-pressure area moving inland.

The report highlights that the prevailing wind patterns have already shifted predominantly to an easterly direction over the Indo Gangetic Plains, extending even to Delhi in the lower levels. Additionally, the Monsoon trough is situated to the south of its usual position, which is expected to result in some rainfall over Delhi and NCR.

Skymet further indicates that the likelihood of rain persists for the next 4-5 days, with most of the rainfall being light, although isolated areas may experience moderate showers.

In its Thursday bulletin, Skymet had foreseen more showers for Friday, September 15, and Saturday, September 16, as the "system may come closer almost abeam Delhi, resulting in more showers during this period."

Favorable conditions for light rain are expected to persist until the weekend, according to the agency.
