Municipal Corporation of Delhi Boosts School Infrastructure with Massive Order of Chairs and Desks

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has placed an order for over 37,000 chairs and more than 6,200 desks as part of an initiative to improve infrastructure in its schools. The move marks the first time that nursery students in these institutions will be provided with desks and chairs.

As part of its efforts to enhance the infrastructure in its schools, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has placed an order for 37,484 chairs and 6,246 desks. This announcement was made by a senior official on Thursday. The move signifies MCD's commitment towards improving educational facilities and ensuring that students have access to basic amenities that facilitate effective learning.

Inspection By Delhi Mayor

Delhi MCD School Infrastructure

The Mayor of Delhi, Shelly Oberoi inspected the newly installed desks at Nigam Pratibha Vidyalaya Saraswati Vihar located in the Keshavpuram Zone under MCD jurisdiction. During her visit, she affirmed that desk and chair facilities will be extended to all schools run by the MCD. She further revealed that this is going to be the first instance where nursery children will also have dedicated desks and chairs.

A Significant Step Towards Improved Infrastructure

This initiative marks a significant step towards improved school infrastructure as it aims at providing comfortable seating arrangements for young learners. According to a statement from the mayor's office, a total of 37,484 chairs and 6,246 desks have been ordered for distribution across 800 schools under MCD administration.

Protests During The Visit

However, Mayor Oberoi’s visit was not without controversy as she faced protests from a group of BJP councillors and workers from Keshavpuram Zone led by Virender Goel. Local councillor Shikha Bhardwaj accused Oberoi of excluding her from participating in this inspection visit. Furthermore, BJP issued a statement alleging that Mayor Oberoi was attempting to mislead people with false claims about being instrumental in providing desks for nursery students for the first time.

In conclusion, despite political controversies surrounding this initiative taken up by Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the decision to provide desks and chairs for students, including those in nursery classes, is a commendable step towards improving educational infrastructure. This move not only ensures a conducive learning environment but also signifies an important shift towards acknowledging and addressing the basic needs of young learners. It remains to be seen how this initiative will be implemented across all MCD-run schools and whether it will bring about substantial improvements in the overall quality of education provided.
