Delhi MCD Election 2017: Kejriwal meets AAP leaders post rout

After a miserable defeat in the MCD elections, Arvind Kejriwal met AAP leaders to introspect losses, redraw strategy.

New Delhi, April 27: After a humiliating defeat in the Delhi MCD elections, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called for a meeting with AAP legislators. The meeting was aimed at introspection and redrawing party strategies.

Following the abysmal performance of the party, AAP has seen a slew of resignations. Dilip Pandey has quit as Delhi in-charge and Sanjay Singh has resigned as the Punjab convenor, three months after the party lost in the state.

The civic poll results indicate that since the 2015 Delhi election, AAP's vote share in the capital has dropped by almost half from 54 percent to around 26 percent. Some 40 AAP candidates lost their deposit.

This has been a crucial time for AAP with prominent faces questioning the leadership. Kejriwal's meeting comes in the middle of worries that the party is losing its member to defections.

A big organisational reshuffle is what is expected in the AAP after the series of defeats that the party has witnessed in Punjab, Goa and very recently in Delhi.

The Bharatiya Janata Party secured a thumping majority in the Delhi MCD elections, winning 181 seats out of the total 270 being contested in North, South and East Delhi.
