New Delhi, April 12: Ahead of the MCD polls, the AAP is wooing the city's sanitation workers by promising them free protective gears like masks and gloves and a fixed deposit of Rs 50,000 to their girl child.

Party sources said the AAP manifesto for the April 23 civic polls will have a separate section for sanitation workers with a promise to address their woes, including crediting their salaries in their bank accounts by seventh of every month.

Sanitation workers called a protest strike in January this year.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has already announced regularisation of some 30,000-40,000 contractual sanitation workers.

"We are also promising a family health insurance cover to every safai karmachari and every worker will get a cashless card for his medical and health expenses," a party leader said.

"More safai karmacharis will be hired in the MCD to ensure that the city's cleanliness is not compromised with," he said.

There are currently 55,226 permanent safai karmacharis (sanitation workers) and 30,000-40,000 contractual sanitation workers in three civic bodies of Delhi and the party is leaving no stone unturned to woo this chunk of voters in the polls where margins are expected to be wafer thin.

"We are promising them resting rooms and food at subsidised rates and better working conditions," the leader said.
