Mosquito Terminator Train Departs Early, Delhi Mayor Launches Inquiry

Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has initiated an investigation into the premature departure of a mosquito terminator train on Friday. She was supposed to inaugurate the train at an event at New Delhi railway station.

Inquiry into Early Train Departure

Mayor Oberoi has instructed MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar to investigate the incident and provide a report promptly. The early departure marks a first in the event's history, highlighting a coordination lapse with Northern Railways.

Coordination Issues Highlighted

An official stated that Mayor Oberoi, Deputy Mayor Aaley Mohammed Iqbal, and Leader of the House Mukesh Goyel were scheduled to flag off the train during the MCD's annual event at 11 am on VIP platform number one. However, the train left before their arrival.

"This has happened for the first time in history that due to the lack of proper coordination with the Northern Railways, the scheduled train left the platform before the fixed time. It is the responsibility of Public Health Department to coordinate with the Northern Railways and make this event successful," read Oberoi's order letter.

Annual Anti-Larval Measures

The MCD annually flags off a mosquito terminator train as part of its anti-larval measures during monsoon. This initiative aims to prevent and control mosquito breeding along railway tracks and nearby areas.

This exercise is a joint effort between Indian Railways and the MCD. The early departure of this year's train underscores a significant lapse in coordination between these entities.

"Kindly look into the matter and find the reason for the same and which concerned officers are responsible for it and send me the report at the earliest," added Oberoi in her directive.

The incident has prompted a review of procedures to ensure such lapses do not recur in future events. The focus remains on maintaining effective coordination for successful execution of public health initiatives.
