Delhi: Man Steals 'Kalash' Worth Rs 40 Lakh From Jain Temple

A gold-plated 'kalash', valued at approximately Rs 40 lakh, was reportedly stolen from the spire of a Jain temple in Jyoti Nagar, northeast Delhi. This incident occurred shortly after another theft involving items worth nearly Rs one crore at a Jain religious event near the Red Fort. The police have confirmed these details.

The 'kalash', crafted from copper with gold lamination and weighing between 25 to 30 kilograms, vanished on Friday night during Karva Chauth celebrations. CCTV footage captured the entire act, revealing that the thief used electric wires to climb onto the temple's roof before removing the 'kalash' and escaping.

Details of the Theft

On Saturday morning, local residents discovered the missing 'kalash' and promptly informed the temple authorities. The temple had been closed as usual on Friday night, and upon reopening on Saturday morning, it became evident that the 'kalash' was gone. A senior police officer mentioned that CCTV footage showed a man loitering outside around 11:45 pm before allegedly climbing up to take the 'kalash'.

Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the suspect using CCTV footage from nearby areas. Multiple teams have been formed to track down the accused, and technical surveillance is being employed to monitor his movements.

The recent theft follows a similar incident reported just days earlier at a Jain religious event near the Red Fort. In that case, items worth nearly Rs one crore were stolen. Both incidents have raised concerns about security measures at religious sites in Delhi.
