Delhi Man Quits Job On First Day After Realising Commute Would Take 3 Hours Each Way

A man who lives in northwest Delhi quit his job on his first day after realising that the commute to his workplace in Gurugram would be too burdensome. The man, who goes by the username "Juicepreet" on Reddit, shared his experience in a post that has since gone viral.

In the post, Juicepreet said that he was excited to start his new job, which had decent pay and offered on-site exposure. However, he quickly realized that the commute would be a major problem. He estimated that it would take him 3 hours each way to get to work, leaving him with only 3 hours of free time each day. He also said that the commute would cost him around 5,000 rupees per month.

''Accepted a position at a respectable company with a decent salary. They were in need of employees and swiftly hired me following several rounds of interviews. I was excited since it marked my inaugural job, yet I soon grasped the arduousness of the travel. I reside in the northwest segment of Delhi (Pink line), while the job was located on 'Moulsari Avenue'. My intention was to experience the on-site environment as I'm quite introverted. Upon crunching the numbers, I came to the realisation that I'd only have approximately 3 hours at home (factoring in office duties and the commute). Moreover, the commuting expense would tally up to around 5k. Changing my residence isn't feasible," he wrote.

Juicepreet said that he tried to talk to his employer about the commute, but they were not willing to make any changes. He also said that he could not afford to relocate to Gurugram. As a result, he decided to quit his job on his first day.

In a follow-up post, the man said that he regrets quitting his job so quickly. "I made an error. I was unaware that so many others endure such extensive commutes. Without anyone to discuss my situation with, I acted on an impulsive decision. I'll learn from this and in the future, I'll seize any other opportunity that arises. Thank you, everyone,'' he penned.
